The Master Line of the Silk Road and Its OriginGuan Chudu1, Cai Cui2

Abstract: By means of the analytical search for the backgrounds, such as the distribution of the mountains in the hinterland of Asia and Europe, production mode of oasis grassland, ancient geopolitics, ancient traffic technology and traffic location, this article clarifies the origin and changes of the master line of the Silk Road between Zhang Qian’s Mission to the Western Regions in the 1st century B.C. and the effective master of the Mediterranean coast by the Ottoman Empire in the 13th century. Discussions are carried on the Territorial States including China, the five central Asian countries, Afghanistan, Iran, Iraq, Syria and Turkey. The traffic locations which had produced important impacts on the trend of the master line of the Silk Road are elucidated including shule, Transoxiana, Mazza Lee Sharif, Khaybar Pass, Parthia, Zagros mouth, Metesian isthmus, Baghdad, Pamirra and Tyre. This article puts forward an important view that the distribution of ancient civilization of Asia and Europe just shapes a cross structure. The ancient civilizations between China in the first quadrant and Persia, Mesopotamia, Greece and Rome in the third quadrant made communication through the Silk Road. The communications between the sea civilization in the fourth quadrant and the interior civilization in the third quadrant was realized by the ship which formed the maritime silk road.
